I keep reading quotes that essentially boil down to “seize the day” or “live in the moment” but instead of saying just that, they say things like, “the only day that matters is today” – and that is so misleading and can be misinterpreted. Can we stop to correct our thinking for a moment. Yesterday and tomorrow matter – BUT – the only day we have is today.
Today is the only day we have. It’s a day of opportunity, or new beginnings, new possibilities, and fresh perspectives.
Yesterday still matters. It has built you up (or broken you down) and made you who you are today. Let go of what did not serve you yesterday. Embrace that which did and use it to grow and move forward. Learn from mistakes – don’t beat yourself up – be kind and forgiving. Reflect on the past but don’t dwell on it, for it is gone.
Tomorrow matters. If we didn’t have tomorrow, we’d have no hopes and dreams. If we didn’t have tomorrow, then there would be no need for being moral and kind. Dream for tomorrow, because – God willing – you will get another chance to clench new realities.
What you do today matters. Be intentional.
